Iggy the Red Iguana now lives in the Rock room! His tail is longer than his body and he is so active! He doesn’t mind being held, but his favorite thing to do is SWIM!! Did you know that iguanas can stay underwater for a half hour at a time? Iggy will grow fast and can get as long as six feet. Do you know how long that is? It is about as long as a man is tall! Iguanas have a row of spines that begin at the base of the skull and end at the point of the tail. The body of an iguana is narrow, long, and covered in soft scales. They also have five long toes with claws to help them climb. How many toes do you have? Do they help you climb?

Iggy loves eating bell peppers and other vegetables and leafy greens. He gets the majority of this water from the foods he eats. Iguanas usually live around 10 years. Iguanas are native to Central and South America and the Caribbean, so the weather here in Texas is a lot like where they come from. Maybe you could look on a map and see if you can find where Iggy is from and where he lives now. Come visit Iggy in the Rock room at EcoLand!
